Why does Child do Thumb Sucking?
We need to understand: first, babies are initially born to suck; that is, they have a sucking reflex present at the time of their birth. If a child is born without sucking ability, their survival becomes difficult, as the child needs to sucking breast milk to pacify or meet their hunger needs.
They are 1) Rooting Reflex and
2) Sucking Reflex.
Other Alternatives for
Thumb Sucking
So, there is nothing to worry / Panic if your child is doing thumb Sucking. If it is being done regularly, then you can provide other alternatives.
The other alternative products are
Some alternatives that be provided to child are teether, soother, pacifier. When the child takes up these toys and puts in his mouth, they feel calming and relax sensation.

When can Thumb Sucking be a problem or can turn into a worrying situation to the child and to the parent?
If the child is below 2 years of age, then thumb sucking is not a problem. If it is being continued for long term after 2 years of age, then you can notice there might be some issues in their oral structures especially in their palate or their teeth hasn't been developed completely. Thus, we suggest to consult your our Pediatrician and ask them the procedures to be followed to reduce child's thumb Sucking as soon as possible. Along with pediatrician, Dentist and Occupational therapists also help your child in reducing this problem.
