Bilateral Co-ordination(role in children), also known as Bilateral Integration, develops gradually as the brain develops in the children. It is the ability of the body to co-ordinate both sides (right – left) together. Bilateral Co-ordination, is essential for children to develop and other improve other fine and gross motor skills. It allows them to engage in performing activities that requires both sides of their brain. Kids typically start developing bilateral Co-ordination skills between 18–21-month-old, and it will be developed maximum at the age of four. When the two sides of the brain (the left and the right) it is in co-ordination means that the Right and left Hemispheres of the brain are working and performing well.

ADL Activities in Bilateral Co-ordination (role in children)

Bilateral Co-ordination is needed for Everything that we do in our daily life.It requires Bilateral Co-ordination all types of ADL activities (Brushing teeth using toothbrush, Wearing and putting off clothes, eating with spoon) . Thus, it is very essential Component that needs to be developed in our Children.

Working on Bilateral Co-ordination

When the Parents and Therapists are working on Bilateral Co-ordination of the child, it means automatically they working on two more components. They are Midline Crossing & Body Awareness. If a child is bilaterally coordinated, automatically it means the child’s Midline and Body Awareness is good. So, train your child to use both sides of their bodies instead of just one while performing motor skills such running, skipping, hopping Well, on one-foot, Catching and throwing a ball, beading activity, arranging building blocks etc.
