Supporting Individuals with Autism

Autism Spectrum Disorder(ASD)

Autism, also known as Autism
Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is a neuro
developmental disorder that affects
a person’s communication, social
interaction, and behavior. Autism is
a complex condition and manifests
differently in each person who has it.

Some people with autism have
difficulty with verbal and nonverbal
communication, while others may
struggle with social interactions and
show repetitive behaviors or obsessive
interests.

Signs, Symptoms & Characteristics Of Autism Spectrum Disorder

Symptoms of autism typically appear in early childhood, but they may not be recognized until later. Common signs of autism include delayed language development, difficulty with social interactions, repetitive behaviors or routines, intense interests in specific topics, and sensory sensitivities. Not all individuals with autism exhibit every symptom, and some may exhibit additional or different symptoms.

Social interaction and communication problem

This involves difficulty in having normal conversations, the inability to respond to cues, emotions, challenges, etc. Children often show reduced interest in relationships and situations.

Treatments And Therapies:

Treatment of autism must begin as soon it is diagnosed. Early treatment of the disorder can help in making life easier for the child and family. There are therapies and medications which work together to help the child treat the symptoms of autism spectrum disorder. Medications help in lowering the density of the symptoms like irritability, aggression, repetitive behavior, hyperactivity, anxiety problems, etc.

Diagnosis & Risk Factor About Autism:

Diagnosing autism in children typically involves a combination of behavioral observations, developmental assessments, and medical evaluations. Here are some of the factors that are typically considered when diagnosing autism in children:

Behavioral Observations

A doctor or specialist may observe a child's behavior and interactions with others to look for signs of autism. This may include observing how the child communicates, their social interactions, and any repetitive behaviors or routines.

Developmental Assessments

A doctor may conduct developmental assessments to look for delays or differences in language, motor skills, or other areas of development. These assessments may include standardized tests, such as CARS,ADOS.

Medical
Evaluations

A doctor may also perform medical evaluations to rule out other conditions that may have similar symptoms to autism, such as hearing or vision problems, seizures, or genetic disorders. To know the child is affected from autism.

World Autism Day

April 2, is World Autism Day to spread awareness about the disorder. The world’s fourteenth annual autism awareness day will be celebrated this year. This day gives recognition to people with autism and those who love and support them.
